REGISTRATION, RACE ENTRY, SEEDINGS PROCEEDURES AND INSURANCE
Registration
To take part in any organised ski races you must organise a National Start Licence – you must be registered with Snowsport England, Scotland or Wales. Details and information available on their websites.
Information is also available through www.britski.org and most races can be paid for online.
Registration takes time. Organise registration as early as possible. Remember that all racers need to re-register each year – your governing body will normally prompt re-registration.
Seedings
When you register you will be listed on ‘seed point’ lists (this does not apply to any mini’s but it is useful to register anyway). Every competitor earns race points dependant on how many seconds they finish behind the winner. The winner is awarded zero points but penalty points are added depending on the standard of race. Points are fed into the seeding system. These are published regularly.
The British system for Children is similar to the one run by FIS, for juniors so racers can see how they rank against the best in the world. Juniors with sufficiently low seed points can apply for a FIS licence, which enables them to race in International Competitions. Seed points are often used as entry criteria for a number of races.
Two types of FIS licence are available – an international licence and a limited licence.
Again all information is available through www.britski.org
Join a ski club – Elite Snowsports
When you register, you will be asked to nominate a snow club. It’s customary, not compulsory. You may already belong to a dry slope. If not we would ask you to nominate Elite Snowsports as your snow club. This will ensure that you are on the BASS list as an Elite Snowsports representative and your results will contribute to the Elite Snowsports club in all team events associated with the various championships, possibly leading to medals. You can also nominate Elite Snowsports as your artificial ski club.
Race entry
Entry forms and fees must be completed for all races. Entry is based on a first come first served basis – children with seed points will have priority. The earlier you enter the better. Late entries are often accepted at a greater cost. Race organisers, trainers or managers will have to confirm the suitability to race of any children without seed points.
Entry forms can be downloaded from www.britski.org
Skis and boots should comply with FIS regulations. Competitors who are taking ANY medication MUST check with the FIS website to ensure they are not taking a banned substance. Drug testing can take place at any race
Remember registration and seeding does not apply to any mini’s but it is useful to register anyway.
Insurance
Insurance cover for racing and race training is compulsory. Ordinary skiing holiday insurances do not cover racing and race training. A number of companies offer the specialist insurance required including Snowcard at www.snowcard.co.uk, Ski Club of Great Britain at www.skiclub.co.uk or Direct Travel at www.directtravel.com
Please also ensure you organise E111’s – available from you local Post Office. We also recommend you take out Cancellation Insurance as Elite Snowsports cannot offer refunds if racers cancel or are forced to leave early for whatever reason if we are unable to re-locate training due to lack of snow.
Race disciplines
Mini’s – Giant Slalom (GS)
Children 1 and 2 – Slalom (S), Giant Slalom (GS) and Super G (SG)
Juniors 1 and 2 – as above plus Downhill (DH)
A simple check list
· Register with your home union if applicable
· Register for an appropriate FIS licence if applicable
· Complete appropriate race entries and don’t forget the fees
· Check race entries have been received and accepted at www.britski.org - it is the responsibility of the racer to check their entry has been successful
Remember to be aware of banned substances/medications and to nominate Elite Snowsports as your snow and dry slope clubs if applicable.
Pastoral care
We pride ourselves on the relaxed and informal yet structured environment we create at the Hotel Staffler. We also work hard to ensure training is competitive, fun – and challenging. Our background is as hotelier, tour operator, coach and teacher. We apply these experiences to all aspects of the Elitesnowsports program.
Our code of conduct
The Elite Snowsports Code of Conduct mirrors closely those recommended by Snowsport GB and Sport UK. They are designed to offer the individual a communal framework for the well being of all. Please also remember athletes are participating in a dangerous and challenging sport.
Our Elite Snowsports staff includes manager, house parent and coach.
1. Smoking, alcohol and the use of recreational or performance enhancing drugs is strictly forbidden.
2. A full disclosure of any medicines required by any athlete must be made to Elite Snowsports staff.
3. Sexual relationships of any kind are strictly forbidden.
4. Bedrooms are always single sex. Athletes are not allowed to enter rooms of the opposite sex without advance permission.
5. Athletes must not behave in a discriminatory manner.
6. Athletes must not commit physical or mental bullying.

Medical care
It is imperative that Elite Snowsports are made aware of any medical conditions applicable to your child. Once you have booked onto our program you will be asked to complete and sign a medical disclaimer and consent form giving us permission to act in loco parentis in the event of hospitalisation.
All staff are competent in first aid and have a close working relationship with local Red Cross services. Injured athletes would always be accompanied to local doctors and hospitals. Parents would be kept informed throughout.
If an athlete requires any minor medical care – coughs, colds, minor injuries we will ask parental permission to medicate. If an athlete were not well enough to ski we would ensure that a responsible adult remains with the child.
Child protection
Elite Snowsports subscribes and adheres to the Snowsports GB Child Protection Policy that gives guidelines for good practice and care of athletes within snow sports. Our staff are aware of the current legislation regarding physical contact with children. We do feel it is beneficial, in certain circumstances to have physical contact with athletes. No member of staff would touch a child when not appropriate. All UK staff are CRB checked.
Disciplinary procedures
1. The sanctions structure will be explained to the athlete – a) Verbal warning or alternative task, b) Written warning or telephone call to parents/guardians, c) Withdrawal of privileges, d) Sending home at parental expense.
2. A serious breach of contract will result in a disciplinary hearing involving the athlete/s as well as two members of staff. Witnesses will be heard separately if appropriate.
3. Parents/guardians will be contacted if feasible or practical but confidentiality of athletes over 16 will be respected.
4. A written record will be signed by Elite Snowsports and kept.
